Mentoring Training

As a coach in our Teacher Induction program at FCSS, you will participate in an initial mentoring training and then from that point forward you will receive consistent and ongoing support in your coaching role. Your designated coaching training is based on your years of coaching experience with FCSS Teacher Induction. Initial Mentoring Training

  • First year coaches with FCSS, will participate in the Mentoring Academy. The Mentoring Academy is an FCSS Teacher Development training series composed of two parts. Part I of the Mentoring Academy is a pre-recorded webinar that coaches will engage in to gain a theoretical understanding of foundational coaching skills. After participating in Part I, coaches will attend an all-day in-person Part II session of the Mentoring Academy, in which they will have chance to put foundational coaching skills (from Part I) into practice.
  • Second year coaches with FCSS, will participate in the Mentoring Refresher, a 2-hour interactive training over Zoom. This training, facilitated by FCSS Teacher Induction, will equip coaches with skills to conduct thorough observations and provide targeted, actionable feedback to drive teacher reflection and instructional improvement.
  • Third+ year coaches with FCSS, will participate in an all-day in-person training at FCSS, Building Safe Spaces in Coaching. This training, facilitated by Dr. Ozzy DeLuna, will equip Induction Coaches with the tools to foster safe environments for the teachers they mentor. This training emphasizes the power of trust in enhancing communication, collaboration, and emotional well-being. Coaches will learn strategies to create spaces where teachers feel valued, heard, and empowered to take risks and grow professionally.

Induction Collaboration (Year 1/Year 2 Transfer PTs & Induction Coaches)

In Year1/Year 2 Transfer Induction Collaboration, Participating Teachers will work alongside their Induction Coaches to develop their Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) to provide the road map for the teachers' Year 1 requirements for the year. The ILP is designed and implemented solely for the professional growth and development of the teacher and not for evaluation or employment purposes. Goals for each participating teacher must be developed within the context of the ILP within the first 60 days of the teacher's enrollment in the program. At this session, Participating Teachers will also learn about the Advice & Assistance process which will highlight how a teacher is informed of their progress in induction, how they can request special assistance, and how they might share any questions/concerns/grievances with the Induction Staff.
